Lanterns, ceramics, metals and baskets-all great options!

Intro:

Here’s the thing — modern farmhouse doesn’t have to mean “everything white and labeled.” You can love the farmhouse look and still add some color and new accents. The trick? Warm it up, soften it, and make it yours.

Modern farmhouse is all about balance — clean lines meet cozy textures. And you can do it with what you already own.

I hope you enjoy the photos. I'm pretty excited! This blog has more photos than ever! I hope it inspires you and you enjoy it as much as I did making it!

Start With the Foundation

Stick to a few simple base elements:

  • Warm wood tones

  • Black or bronze accents

  • Neutral base colors (white, cream, gray, soft beige). Blues, greens and clay add beautiful accents.

These give that modern, crisp look — but they’re just the starting point.

How to Make It Cozy

This is where the magic happens.

  • Add soft textures — throws, pillows, woven baskets.

  • Use warm lighting — lamps instead of overheads.

  • Bring in greenery — faux or real, doesn’t matter.

  • And don’t forget something personal — a photo, a vintage find, a favorite candle scent.

Budget-Friendly Cozy Tricks

You don’t have to redo your whole room. Try:

  • Painting old picture frames black (instant modern vibe). Or, I painted 2 window pane mirrors to go behind my nightstands this great green and had to pat myself on the back-they turned into a favorite part of my bedroom. Don't like your furniture? I painted mine and couldn't be happier-reach out for tips. One color for nightstands and a different color for the dresser.

  • Thrifting baskets or trays to hold throws.

  • Using pillow covers instead of new pillows — more cozy, less clutter. This is my absolute favorite go-to. If not, you wouldn't get into my house-seriously.

  • Mixing wood finishes — matching everything is overrated anyway.

Quick Decor Swaps

If your farmhouse space feels “cold,” add:

  • A chunky knit throw

  • Brass or wood accents

  • A plant or a candle in a textured holder

  • Vases with real (or in my case) artificial greenery or floral

If it feels “too matchy,” try mixing in something imperfect — an old chair, a rustic vase, even a thrifted bowl. Cozy is never perfect.

Wrap-Up: The Real Secret

The secret to cozy modern farmhouse isn’t what you buy — it’s how it feels. If it makes you want to curl up with coffee, you nailed it.

Modern Farmhouse or Modern Farmhouse Cottage is just adding a little more texture and color to the Farmhouse style. But! I personally don't have a "style". Mine is a combination of what I feel at that point in time.

So this blog is loaded with pictures. Pick a few things that catch your eye and go with it. Have fun and don't forget to laugh. That's what decorating is all about.

Happy Decorating!
